For me, this is the wild Africa that I always imagined. To witness the great migration, the largest migration of land animals on the planet, is awe-inspiring. The predators are as abundant here as anywhere I have been. It is the ideal destination for an African photographic safari.
Our Serengeti photographic safaris in Tanzania are available between October and December and are designed around Lemala Safari’s luxury properties. Our trip focuses on the north of the Serengeti and the game rich Seronera River Valley in the south.
The trip starts with a night in Arusha, a small town near Kilimanjaro, before flying into the heart of the Serengeti. Guests will have the chance to spend four nights in the central Seronera Valley, an area of outstanding game viewing, at either Lemala’s Ewanjan camp or Lemala’s Nanyukie camp. Then up in the north of the Serengeti guests can spend three nights at Lemala’s Kuria Hills and will have the chance to photograph the Great Migration’s river crossings.
The safari in late February and early March is timed to co-inside with the peak of the calving season. Staggering figures of up to 8000 calves are born every day…! You can photograph this huge natural event and focus on the migration and predator action one sees over this period.
This is without a doubt one of the best times for you to witness this extraordinary spectacle when the herds find themselves on the vast open plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains. Here over 8 000 calves are born per day – yet less than half will live to see their five-month birthday.
Roaming prides of lion follow the herds, large clans of hyena and of course resident cheetah make for non-stop action. For these reasons Ndutu is a favourite with wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and film-makers. Book now, the earlier the better.
