Kibale National Park for Chimpanzee Tracking
The road trip rewards a trip to Kibale National Park to track the chimpanzees. A chimp tracking tour offers a chance to see our closest relatives the chimpanzees. The chimpanzees live in rain forest and the only access is by foot. Chimpanzee trekking is active and usually requires hiking for several hours to see chimps up close.
Their intelligence and social structure of chimps make them fascinating primates for observation, and no two visits are the same. Chimpanzees live in communities ranging from 20 to 150 individuals. Like humans, they tend to have strong personalities. Their beautiful faces make their identities easily recognized by us, even during a short visit. Lucky visitors will be able to hear their pant-hooting, a communal, loud calling session which can be triggered by anything that excites them – including you.
A chimp trekking safari offers people a welcome break from game drives. Watching these great apes up close on foot is an amazing experience, almost with gorilla trekking. Most African safaris are centered on car-based wildlife viewing, and activities such as chimp trekking offer a nice break from time sitting in vehicles. Chimp trekking is mostly done as part of a longer tour that includes other activities, such as wildlife viewing in savannah reserves and gorilla trekking. In Kibale after your safari, you can camp at Kibale Forest Camp.
Queen Elizabeth National Park for Wildlife
On the Western border of Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the parks best for self-drive safaris in Uganda, and is home to a myriad of wildlife and geographical features.
This is the most reliable park in Uganda for lion, which is particularly common on the grassy Kasenyi Plains, but is more famous for its tree-climbing antics in the Ishasha sector. Huge herds of buffalo and elephant are found in the savannah areas of the park, and the best way to get an early feel for Queen Elizabeth National Park is to join the two-hour boat cruise up the Kazinga Channel, which runs between Lake George and Lake Edward.
Bird life is fantastic but the whole journey, especially if you go at sunset, is filled with sightings of watering elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocs and various antelope. an amazing number of hippo inhabit the Kazinga Channel on which daily boat trips are conducted.
However, in the Ishasha sector of QENP, lions spend a significant amount of time lounging in giant fig trees. Some believe they do this to escape the tsetse flies, while others think it’s to stay cool. Regardless, witnessing a large pride of lions in a tree is an unforgettable sight. In Queen Elizabeth National Park, you can camp at Ishasha Wilderness Camp.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for Gorilla Tracking
A mountain gorilla trekking tour is a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife adventure. Coming eye-to-eye with these creatures, especially a silverback, is truly a thrilling experience. Mountain gorillas can be tracked in three countries in Africa and that is Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Uganda and Rwanda have lots more to offer than gorilla trekking alone, which makes a trip even more worthwhile. Gorillas are highly endangered. So, it is also worth considering that the money you spend on gorilla trekking will be used in the conservation and protection of these great apes.
The price of gorilla tracking in Uganda is currently US$700. In Rwanda the price is US$1500 and in the DRC it is at US$400. The experience in all three countries is very similar. You can stay one hour with a gorilla troop after you have reached their location. The tour group size is limited to eight people.
A new activity offered in Bwindi Forest only is the gorilla habituation experience where you’ll track a semi-habituated troop in a limited group of four travelers and this activity costs only US$1500. Instead of the one-hour time limit given for the ‘normal’ gorilla trekking, you’ll be able to stay for four hours. Viewing is less easy as these gorillas aren’t fully habituated yet and prefer to keep their distance. The price for this special activity is US$1500. ” While at Bwindi Forest, you can camp at any lodge of your tracking sector.
